Identifying the Problem
With a global workforce attending conferences around the world, FHI 360 employees began using third-party apps to create their own digital business cards. These employees sought a more seamless way to connect with colleagues and potential clients that wasn’t being offered by paper cards or FHI 360’s current suite of software. This led to inconsistent applications of the FHI 360 brand and created accounts outside of the organization’s IT management processes.
Designing the Solution
The in-house expertise and opportunity for full customization led FHI 360 to build their own digital business card, rather than subscribing to a third-party service. The web application Brandon designed was tied to FHI 360 employee’s Microsoft accounts to allow for secure SSO and the pre-population of select personal information for the card. The product team also added functionality tailored to FHI 360 employees, including the ability to choose a preferred time zone to help contextualize global communications and a list of regional FHI 360 offices to make it easy for users to add a primary address to their card. The card allowed users to share their information as a web page via the URL or a QR code and allowed recipients to save that information as a contact in their smartphone.
